Marteloscopes and data
The concept of marteloscopes was originally developed in France. The term is derived from the French word for tree selection (‘martelage’) and the Greek term "skopein" (look), meaning literally “having a closer look” at a tree selection. The concept was at first mainly applied in private forests but its potential was soon recognised for field-based training and education of forestry professionals and students. Marteloscopes are in general one hectare large, rectangular forest sites where all trees are numbered, mapped and recorded.

Access to marteloscope sites
If a particular data set of a marteloscope site should be loaded, the user will need to contact (1) the respective marteloscope manager on the contact list, (2) the organiser of a training event or (3) the EFI-Bonn Office (adminbonn@efi.int). The user will receive an access password to load the desired marteloscope site and corresponding data to the I+ Trainer. Contact details for all available marteloscope sites (PDF)
Data assessed
The data currently assessed is displayed in the table below. Additional parameters can be collected and displayed in newly developed software modules.
